An album containing original sketches (pencil, pen and wash), about half topographical and apparently sketched from life.

Small oblong folio. 31 leaves (62 pages) , with sketches on 16 pages. (Signs that two leaves have been removed, occasional offsetting of sketches onto the facing page, but otherwise in excellent condition internally.)
Original leather-backed cloth-covered boards (extremities worn, ties lacking).
Provenance: A.W. Gestling (ownership inscription dated 1900, most sketches initialed ''A.W.G.'); 'Gertrude' (inscription noting gift of album to 'Gertrude').
An interesting selection by a gifted amateur who visited some of the more remote south Atlantic locations, probably in the period just before and at the very start of the First World War.The artist started at one end of the album, shut the book turned it over and started again from the 'back' of the album.
