Inscribed and dated by the author to his brother, published for the Friends of the South African Library by A.A,Balkema, 1972, quarter leather with salmon boards with publishers monogram and gilt lettering to the spine, sketches, drawings and maps, 180 x 250mm, condition: very good.

There are ten pictures of Cape Town, and fifteen more of farmhouses and scenery along the 53-mile road from port Elizabeth to Cape Town, which the artist travelled on horseback. The journal and sketches were discovered, hidden away in the library of Parliament, Cape Town. Addition material comes from the India Office, London and Mr. Harry Oppenheimer.
