Architectural Beauty of the old Cape a seen by Arthur Elliot, photographs of houses and farmsteads now largely demolished or ruined taken at the beginning of the twentieth century, selected, annotated and with an introduction by Hans Fransen, curator of the Stellenbosch Museum, A.A.Balkema, over 200 full-page black and white photographic plates on glossy paper stock, 270 x 270mm, dust jacket has minor wear and tear on lower front edge, internally: very good.
Arthur Elliot was the recorder of a lost architectural history which is reflected in Fransen's text and 'The Elliot Collection', of which these images are an excellent record. Elliot was held in such regard that during his Union Celebrations exhibition in 1910, George McCall Theal (History of South Africa, 5 volumes, 1889–1900) compiled the exhibition catalogue and also wrote the notes.
