One original letter signed and dated Cape Town January 26th 1825, in his hand, to Benjamin Moodie of Swellendam.

The closure of The South African Journal and the Commercial Advertiser, as well as the decline of the Academy left him financially strained. He was within weeks of returning to England for better prospects.

In this brief letter he advises that Fairbairn is down sick, that he will make a plan to see Moodie at some time before leaving the Cape for England (he left in April of this year), advises that he is shortly leaving for Algoa Bay and that Lord Charles Somerset had left for the Frontier this day.
