The Making of the South African Native Problem

Unusually, this book, one of a pair by the then professor of history at the University of the Witwatersrand, has the Faber & Gwyer imprint on the title-page and the dustjacket; but the better-known Faber & Faber successor on the cover spine.

Two-colour typographical dustjacket, dark-blue cloth-boards, gilt lettered to the spine, plain endpapers, xiii + 328 pp of text and index + Captain Owen's 1830s folding map at the back.

Although the unclipped dustjacket (21s) has been repaired the wording at the top of the spine was not able to be restored. The covers and binding are near-fine, with the slightest bump at the top of the spine. The top page edge is gilt with the other edges untrimmed. The front endpaper carries the bookplate and signature of the previous owner. The back endpaper is unmarked. The contents are complete, bright, unmarked and undiscoloured, making this a very good copy.
