The Bechuana by A. M. Duggan-Cronin, first published in 1929 and this publication was made possible by the generous assistance rendered by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, acting through the Research Grant Board of the Union of South Africa. (Reprinted in 1984.)
Mr. Duggan-Cronin was born in 1874 in County Cork Ireland. He initially trained for the Jesuit priesthood, which he abandoned and came to South Africa in 1897 where he joined the De Beers in Kimberley until his retirement in 1932.
He served in both the Anglo-Boer and First World wars and died in Kimberley in 1954.
This publication constitutes a social and historical photographic record of the Bechuana Tribes the value of which is only now being appreciated. He started his hobby in 1904 when he got a box camera and in his own words, mastered the art of photography which brought him fame.
This book is in very good condition.
