A Christian missionary in south China's Fukien Province, Caldwell turned to the rifle to help him survive bouts of depression due to his isolation in the region. He bagged a variety of tigers around the city of Foochow, many of them man-eaters. In one instance, he used a diminutive .22 Hi-Power Savage rifle as his weapon of choice. Besides hunting big cats, he also stalked serow and bighorn sheep in northern Shensi Province. There is an additional chapter on hunting wild boar. Original gray cloth with snarling tiger vignette in blue and black on the front cover, titles on spine a bit dulled but still legible. Small scuff mark to spine. Original endpapers firm and tight. Well illustrated with photo plates.
