Webb and his party traveled over the Great Plains, to Wyoming, and on to the Rockies. They met Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill Cody. He comments on the terrain and the native Americans he encountered. There are also descriptions of hunting buffalo, wild turkey, quail, and prairie chickens, and hunting wolves with grey hounds. Original brown cloth with gilt buffalo vignette and further decorations in black on the upper board, and with a gilt title banner with decorations. Original endpapers firm and tight. The frontispiece has been glued to the third free front endpaper and is lacking a corner. Nicely illustrated with full page plates and text drawings.
