This work, one of several by James Walton, who was the foremost authority on the vernacular architecture of the Cape, received high praise from the curator of the Stellenbosch Museum, Marinus le Roux, and also his thanks as the author donated the proceeds from the book to the restoration of the museum.
Glazed photographic dustjacket with lettering to the front and spine; green cloth-boards, similarly lettered; sepia printed endpapers reproducing a sketch of a fowl-run; colour frontispiece; xx + 120 pp of matt art text profusely illustrated with photographs and drawings.
The back of the dustjacket is rubbed and the flaps and inside of the jacket are lightly foxed. The boards are very lightly rubbed at the foot. The endpapers and contents are unmarked and undiscoloured, making this a fine copy overall.
The accompanying bibliography is a photocopy of the 16 pp A5 original.
