  • "Presented with the compliments of The Cape Electric Tramways (1949) Limited"
  • The book includes photographs of Tramways' chairman, C S Corder, and deputy chairman and managing director, Ivan Pavlovsky

This copy is unusual and particularly interesting; it was presented to Dr E M Sandler and it includes an open envelope pasted to the back endpaper; in the envelope were a typewritten letter addressed to Dr Sandler from Mr Pavlovsky in 1961 and a partially typed and partially handwritten note dated 23 March 1966 from and to the same individuals; the latter included photostat copies of threepenny and sixpenny tickets "for what was probably an early Sea Point to Cape Town horse-drawn tramcar" -

  • "found with 1890 correspondence during excavations at the Queen's Hotel, Sea Point"
  • "the printers were possibly Van de Sandt, de Villiers and Company"
  • "we," wrote Mr Pavlosky, "are still attempting to obtain the originals from the people who found them"

The copy is perfect in all respects - complete, undamaged, unmarked except for the enclosed correspondence, and undiscoloured

  • A few copies of this book are available on the internet, but none are in the condition of this copy or have similr enclosures
