Cattle Farming in South Africa (1932)

South African Agricultural Series - Volume 10. The author of this thick reference book was professor of animal husbandry and dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of South Africa.

The khaki cloth-boards are rubbed and there is damage to the lower corner of the upper board (see image). The binding remains tight. The back endpaper is unmarked, as are the 458 pp of illustrated text, appendixes and index + 6 pp of publisher's announcements + frontispiece, folding map, 6 other inserted maps, 28 other inserted photographs and graphs (2 present but loose).

This ex-library copy has a reference number on the spine and a cancelled stamp and former owner sticker on the front free endpaper. There is another owner signature on the dedication page and the front page edge. The remains of a school prize label are on the front paste-down. All-in-all, this is an acceptable copy of a now rare reference book.

Professor Bosman, whose favourite breed was the Africander (illustrated on the frontispiece), is not to be confused with Professor Bonsma (then a young man included in Bosman's acknowledgments) of the Mara Research Station in today's Limpopo Province, who famously developed the Bonsmara (from Bonsma and Mara, mainly from the Africander, which may now be the country's most populous cattle breed.]
