How it works

Register

Half bound in tan calf and decorative paper-boards, plain endpapers, top edge gilt. The contents comprise frontispiece [ii] + 376 pp of prelims, introduction, text and index + 8 pp of advertisements and publisher's announcements.

"Stonor" heraldic bookplate on front paste-down. "10/6" ["10s 6d in boards" being the original price] in pencil on the half-title. No other markings.

The sunned spine cover has been reglued to the outside leather hinges, leaving thin white joins visible. The boards and leather corners are rubbed. The gilt on the top page edge has dulled. The front endpaper has been reinforced with narrow white tape; it is sunned in register with the bookplate. The back endpaper, the 3 previous leaves and the first 4 leaves of the book (including the frontispiece and title-page) are moderately foxed.

For the rest, this is an unmarked, clean, and therefore valuable copy of this rare and sought-after title, now more than two hundred years old.
