Presented by the Botany Department of the University of Stellenbosch and the sons of the late Professor and Mrs Marloth on the occasion of the visit of the international botanists to Stellenbosch on 27th September 1963.

17 loose coloured plates in a manila folder and brown envelope with a presentation inscription to Dr. E.A. Schelpe.

Numbers 21 - 24, 34, 36, 40 - 43, 46 - 51 & 59, (290 x 205 mm). All but two plate bears a printed note on the back, 'Kleurplate uit Flora of South Africa van Rudolph Marloth. Geskenk deur die Departement Plantkunde van die Universiteit van Stellenbosch en de seuns van wyle prof. en mevr. Marloth. Stellenbosch, 27 September 1963.'

The plates, each 290 x 205 in size, are in very good condition.

These plates are printed on stiff card and are from volume IV of Marloth's Flora which was published in 1915 (Violume I was published in 1913 and Volumes II, parts 1 & 2, and Volume III, parts 1 & 2, were issued in 1925 and 1932 respectively). The text was printed in England but the colour plates were printed in Germany by the chromolithographic process.

After World War I they were sent to London for safekeeping but were destroyed in a fire in 1926. Rudolph Marloth died in May 1931.
