First edition. Small 4to., fols. [vi] 44. Roman and italic letter, woodcut initials. A single worm-hole in the text, increasing towards the end to a worm-trail (a tiny bit of further worming, affecting no text, on last leaf). Otherwise, title slightly dusty with a couple of small marks, tips of corners of first few leaves bent down, but a good clean copy, bound in modern quarter-calf and marbled boards, label red morocco gilt.
An interesting work of both ancient history and contemporary law and politics: a comparison of the magistracy of the author’s contemporary Venice with that of ancient Rome. Piso (d. 1591) was a professor of law at Padua, and taught also in Venice and Pisa. He was the father of the canon lawyer Taddeo Piso (d. 1614?).
CNCE 41415. Not in Adams.
