Subtitled (in translation) \"Sketch of the founding and development of the Republic\", Ittersum\'s text was published to provide a brief history of the OFS in the light of \"England\'s war with both the Boer Republics in South Africa\".
The front cover of the orange paper wraps, with black lettering to both covers and the spine, is sunned. Most of the spine has been lost and clear archival tape has been used to strengthen the binding.
The contents - frontispiece of Martinus Theuns Steyn, the last president of the Orange Free State Republic, and other inserted plates of the former Presidents Brand and Reitz, plus iv + 60 pp of text - are clean and complete.
Ths is an acceptable copy of a rare little volume that is both authoritative and an example of the fine typography that characterised the work of the leading printers in the Netherlands a century ago.
