In 1515, a German from Nuremberg wrote a letter referring to the arrival of a Rhinoceros in Lisbon, and subsequently at Rome. The original letter is lost but a translation exists at Florence,from which this booklet is based. Apparently Durer, the German Painter copied the sketches of the animal from the original letter and these are now in the British Museum (page 23).
