Mainly in Afrikaans with some English, this encyclopaedic volume - some 750 quarto double-column pages printed on art paper - details the anatomy and rise of the National Party, and (translated) "what it had then achieved, with important articles and biographies of its founders, leaders and supporters throughout the Union".
Maroon-brown cloth-boards, gilt to the front and spine, plain endpapers, ii + inserted 2-col family register + 748 pp of illustrated text, advertisements, list of subscribers and list of advertisers.
CONDITION NOTES. The boards are rubbed, the spine has small tears at the head and is rubbed at the foot. The hinges are intact but the binding is shaken. There are cracks after the first leaf and before the last leaf, with gauze showing. There are two owner signatures on the front free endpaper. The book is otherwise unmarked and the art paper remains undiscoloured.
As a minimum, the new owner of this complete copy of a valuable political document of its time will want to have the binding strengthened.
