This may be the best book on the Great Trek. It is certainly the most readable, though not available in English (as is the later "500 Years. A History of South Africa" under this author's editorship. Copies are now not as easily available as they once were and this copy, despite its substandard dustjacket, can be recommended.
The brown and yellow typographical dustjacked, though complete, is extensively rubbed and chipped. The brown paper boards, white lettered to the spine, are rubbed at the bottom edges and at the top of the spine. The binding remains sound. The plain endpapers are unmarked but partially sunned. The vii + 476 pp of text, appendixes, a long reference and bibliographic section and the index are unmarked and undiscoloured, as are the 10 inserted pp of plates on art paper and the two back-to-back six-panel folded maps inserted before the back endpaper.
