This lot commemorates Dutch photographer Jansjie Wissema's architectural and human record of the last days District Six, an inner Cape Town multi-racial suburb bulldozed as part of the then Government's apartheid policy
- The cover text relates how the late photographer's negatives were found in a shoebox in a storeroom of the Cape Provincial Institute of Architects, which had commissioned but since forgotten the photography; how the flat (no light-meter) negatives were brought to life by French photographer Alain Proust; and how the text, by poet Adam Small, was add to augment the photographs with a plea for the revival of District Six
