Published to mark the centenary of the founding of Johannesburg in 1886, this book features more than one hundred drawings of buildings by the noted Pretoria, Johannesburg and (later) Stellenbosch architect and member of the P G J Meiring family, Hannes Meiring.

Laminated illustrated cream boards printed in crimson and black, plain endpapers, 144 pp of prelims, text and index illustrated with Meiring's drawings and six maps.

Dedication by the artist on the front free endpaper.

Loosely inserted are an invitation to the launch of the book and a price-list of 56 original drawings from the book that were on show for two weeks at Northwards, Parktown, then the head office of the Institute of South African Architects. [Guesswork: The prices - from R110 to R350 + tax - may well have been one-tenth of the sums these originals would fetch today.]
