In 1866 he abandoned his medical practice at Kimberley where he was prominent in the fight against smallpox, and became one of the principal characters in the scramble for the Rand\'s gold riches and very much part of the history of this epic period...\" Book condition: very good russet-coloured boards with gilt spine titles, end-papers and page edges browned. Jacket condition: extremities showing wear, top edge chipped and creased, browned.
