Full-bound in grey cloth-boards with the upper panel printed in black and white and the spine and the lower panel printed in black only; top edge gilt, other edges uncut; plain cream cartridge endpapers; half-title illustrated in black; full-colour pasted-down frontispiece with caption printed on tissue-guard; decorative black title-page, contents page, list of illustrations and story opening pages; 320 pp of text + 15 other inserted full-colour pasted-down illustrations with captions printed on tissue-guards + 24 other inserted monochrome illustrations without tissue-guards.
CONDITION NOTES. The boards and spine are rubbed with the spine-ends lightly turned in and one corner lightly bumped. The gilt top-edge remains bright. Both endpapers are cracked and the binding is slightly shaken. The endpapers and first two leaves are lightly foxed. The contents are complete, unmarked and undiscoloured, with all Harry Clarke's famous colour and other inserted illustrations and their tissue guards present, bright and undamaged.
A small binding repair and new endpapers would enhance the condition and value of what remains a rare copy of this first English edition.
