A fine letter written and signed by John X. Merriman, dated 23 December, 1906.

"Schoongezicht, Stellenbosch" letterhead.

"Dear Mr. More,

Thanks for the Xmas card - the good wishes I heartily reciprocate. I have been wondering how you have stood this rain - I fear that it must have rather interfered with your clients as I see the (...) river was inundated. I am truly sorry for those poor people - and my friend Plessis with his thousand bags of potatoes.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the trip nor how impressed I was with all I saw. I am writing to (B...) and will tell him of your wellbeing.

With kind regards and all good wishes, yours truly, John X. Merriman"

A single leaf, folded, with Merriman's message on front and rear panels.
