'A brief account of the Witwatersrand Mining Industry, its achievements and objects; how the mines are operated, and what they mean to the country.'

Second edition, brought up to date since the first edition four years earlier (1923).

'This booklet sets forth in plain and simple language, and with the employment of a minimum of technical terms, the romantic story of the development of the Witwatersrand Gold Field. It describes very briefly the methods adopted for working the deposits and the essential features relating to Capital, Labour, Expenditure, Taxation and Dividends, and it shows how very largely the Union is dependent upon the satisfactory and economic working of these mines, which have up to date produced gold to the value of approximately £915,000,000.'
