The author was the commanding officer of the 15th battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the First World War and later the administrator of Barotseland and the provincial commissioner of the Gold Coast Colony [later Ghana]; in this book, he provides one of the most comprehensive well-produced histories of Rhodesia before the Second World War
