A rare work: G.R.G. Worcester worked as a river inspector in China from 1914 to 1948, was an acknowledged expert on Chinese Junks. He took a more general interest in all types of traditional Chinese boat and ship design, and when he returned to the UK he continued to study maritime history, even serving as honorary editor of the Mariner’s Mirror. His best known work is: "The Junks and Sampans of the Yangtze" [Shanghai: 1948, 2 vols].
