This copy of Brocklehurst's classic work includes the scarce dust jacket. "Read all you can about the animals you intend to hunt," writes Brocklehurst in his author's note. He ably describes all manner of big game, presenting them in alphabetical order from addax to [Grant’s] zebra. The text is beautifully complemented by W. H. Riddell's colored plates, and life-size silhouettes of spoor. Included is a six-page chapter titled "On Killing Elephant" by W. D. M. Bell (Czech, p. 35). The book's tan cloth includes a bright gilt lion vignette on the front cover and gilt spine titles with light rubbing to the head of the spine. The original endpapers are firm and tight, with a previous owner's signature in red pencil on the front free endpaper. The dust jacket shows chipping at the spine head and general edge wear.
