Garden Birds

Here at last is a bird book for all South Africans-a book which can be used by everyone in the family.

Of the eight hundred and more species of birds in South Africa, only a few are regularly seen in the garden. It is these birds, the ones which we do see every day, that Mr Newman illustrates and describes so beautifully and in so much detail.

A. P. Cartwright, the South African author, writes : "Most common birds are visitors to our gardens except the Butcher Bird who frequently turns out to be "The Man Who Came to Dinner". We all know how awkward it is when friends drop in and we cannot remember their names. With Mr Newman at your elbow, there will be no trouble about this.

'He has gone to infinite trouble to make sure you recognize the birds you are likely to see wherever you may live. He tells you what to expect of them, how they nest, how they feed and how to recognize their calls and songs. Had Mr Newman done nothing more than publish his beautiful colour plates he would have given us a classic.'. Unclipped dustcover-103 pages text with illustrations. Second Impression 1972.Owners signature to front paste down. Very clean copy.

Roadside Birds

This book is for all who travel the highways and byways of Southern Africa and who appreciate the natural wonders which unfold before them.

Kenneth Newman exquisitely portrays the majority of birds which can be seen by the traveller. Here are the beauteous "Long-tailed Widow-bird", the proud goshawk surveying his domain, the gaudy Red Bishop-bird flitting like a bumble bee over the mealie fields and many other specimens of our rich bird life which add colour and excitement to a journey.

Newman's reputation as a South African artist, ornithologist and writer was established with the publication of his first book Garden Birds of South Africa and this is intended as a companion volume to this work. Unclipped dustcover with 104 pages text with plates and illustrations. Third impression 1975. Very clean copy.
