This booklet was one of the publisher's "Monument" series. The conversations with Dr Leyds (a former State Secretary of the South African Republic and, for the period 1898-1902, the S A R's diplomatic representative in Europe) originally appeared in "The Star". This little book sees them in Afrikaans for the first time, and the publisher noted that Dr Leyds had the opportunity to make a few corrections and amplifications.
"Skenking Ing L W Leyds" is on the front free endpaper, and there are library marks on the front cover, spine and title-page.
The grey card wraps, printed in blue back and front, are pasted to the endpapers, and there is a publisher's announcement on the back free endpaper. Inserted in the 49 pp of text, unmarked and undiscoloured, are a recent frontispiece portrait of Dr Leyds and four other glossy plates - the railway bridge over the Komati River, the opening of the Transvaal-Natal railway, and 1896 and 1898 cartoons featuring Dr Leyds in "Die Amsterdammer".
A rare and attractive little book in very good condition.
