There are sections on the Cape, Madagascar, Bourbon, Mauritius, St Helena and Ascension as well as West Africa. Theal criticised the work for its inaccuracies but these can be traced through to the sources of the information. It is one of the scarcer early surveys of the continent as known at the time.
