This copy of a justly admired book is in exceptional condition. The binding has been restored with new head and tail bands, backstrip pasted down and new endpapers inserted. The brown cloth-boards have three small stains to the front and one to the back, but remain bright and clear. The corners are only lightly rubbed and the pencil holder is in place.
There is an owner signature and date in an elaborate scroll on the half-title page. The first and last leaves are sunned but there is no foxing to the pages - the xii + 265 pp of text and publisher's announcements include a good number of blank pages for the book-owner's recipes and notes. These have been well used (see images), and the additional suggested recipes - from Boston Bread to Tomato Catsup, Tomato Chutney and Tomato Sauces - are legible and practical.
