A distinguished and decorated soldier, Macintyre mixed sporting adventures with his military exploits. This book, compiled from his notebooks and articles published in the Oriental Sporting Magazine, recounts his lifetime love of big game hunting in the Himalayas. Chapters include hunts after thar and goral on the Chipla Mountain; ibex, bear and barasingh shooting in Kashmir; serow stalking in the Gopee Chund hills; shapoo, Ovis ammon and antelope hunting in Ladak, as well as hunts after markhor near the Pir Panjal, tiger, musk deer and other species. The author chose the name "Hindu-Koh" from the Persian words for Abode of Snow to distinguish his book from other books concerning hunting Himalayan game. Bound in contemporary red leather , raised spine bands with gilt decorated panels, and gilt titles on black leather title band. Marbled boards lightly scuffed. Colored frontispiece, tinted plates, text illustrations. Tissue guards show some offsetting, Page 6 rather foxed, but the remainder of the text block is clean. Original cover with gilt markhor vignette tipped in at the back. A very good, tight, attractive copy.
