N. p., London, 1820. Vol. XVII, Pamphlet No. XXXIII (pp. 24). Octavo (21 cm) in half leather over pebbled cloth, gilt titles. From the Port Elizabeth sales catalogue of 1952 (the last time this little book changed hands): “This excessively rare work is not to be confused with the four pages ‘Hints on Emigration’, sometimes found bound with the Burchell Travels. Those four pages are in defence of this original work. A compact work giving a sketch of the Cape which is valuable and interesting, containing some of the old names no longer in use, and many useful recommendations. In retrospect to peruse carefully this little work will prove it to be a gem with added lustre for each of its 132 years…. Much more rare than the Burchell Travels.” See Mendelssohn (I, 223). Fine and, yes, at least scarce.
