How it works

Register

Compiled by direction of his Majesty's Government, this major work, which succeeds well in its effort at impartiality, may be the best published history of the Anglo-Boer War on either side.

Together, Vols I-IV comprise 2668 pp of text, glossaries, lists of abbreviations, appendixes and indexes. The four boxes of folded maps and freehand sketches - one for each volume - contain a total of 117 of these items.

The blue cloth-boards, gilt to the upper panels and the spine for the volumes and gilt to the spine only for the map boxes, show some light rubbing and spotting, but the condition of the set as a whole is immaculate - no marks (except for "George Marshall" in blue crayon on the half-title of Vol I) or discolouration and complete in all details.

More details of the contents of each volume will be found in Hackett (p ii).
