This is a landmark book in South African photojournalism. Cole fled South African in 1966 to publish this remarkable photo-essay which documents apartheid. The book was banned in South Africa but created a sensation abroad. An exhibition of his work and the photos in this book has recently been mounted by the Hasselblad Foundation and was shown at the Johannesburg Art Gallery and abroad and was accompanied by a magnificent book commemorating Cole and his work, as as the original \"House of Bondage\" is now a collector\'s item. It is one of only three South African books included in the massive work on \"The Photo Book\" by Parr and Badger (the other two being by David Goldblatt). This copy is near fine in dw. There is some spotting of the cloth edges (not very visible) and the dw. has a very small abrasion of the rear panel (see illustrations) and some very light internal browning not visible externally. Altogether a very nice copy.
