Hunting in British East Africa by ...Percy C. Madeira with a foreword by Frederick Courtney Selous and one hundred and twenty nine illustrations from photographs by the author.
Philadelphia & London: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1909. Octavo. Pp. [1-]303[-304]. Title printed in red and black. 2 plates preceding the title, 127 half-tone images on 93 leaves of plates. (Lacking the two maps which should be in the pocket at the rear).
Original red cloth, upper cover and spine blocked in gilt and black, top edges gilt (spine slightly discoloured and slightly frayed at head and foot, inner hinges split but holding).
First edition - a nice copy of this big-game hunting classic with a couple of fix-able problems: the inner hinges need repair and replacements for the two folding maps are also needed. The author ranged throughout British East Africa on Safari, a couple of years before Teddy Roosevelt made his trend-setting trip. Madeira hunted with Selous and a number of other turn of the last century notables.150-250100
