Charles Davidson Bell., Hunting Sketches., Published by The John And Charles Bell Heritage Trust., Cape Town., 1984., Numbered and Limited 51/ 150.

The folder has a small stain to the top board. Overall this edition is in very good condition with all prints present.

Cloth Folder with 5 prints, the inscriptions on the drawings are all in ink, presumably in Dr. Andrew Smith's handwriting, Titled as follows., No. 21 "Rhinoceros Shooting"  The figures in European clothing , with guns, are Hottentot members of Andrew Smith's party. No. 23 "Rhinoceros at Bay" Judging by the mountain scenery this would be the rhinoceros hunting described by Andrew Smith in his Journal as taking place in Magaliesberg mountains. No. 24 " Rhinoceros the death ". Certainly the culmination of the event depicted by Bell in numbers 23 and 21. The figures in European clothing are Hottentot members of Andrew Smith's party. No. 28 " Bushmen method of catching in pitfall which was designedly placed where the animals went to drink. No. 27 " Bechuanas attacking a Rhinoceros ". The men in the picture are clearly Tswanas judging from the weapons and shields.
