The author, a missionary, traveled through the Belgian Congo and into the border region with Uganda, northwest of Lake Victoria, where he spent time among the cannibal and pigmy tribes of the region. There are numerous incidents of hunting antelope, as well as encounters with lion and leopard. Of particular interest are Lloyd’s hunts after elephant -- with a .303 rifle. As he noted, “I had always looked upon elephant hunting as being all right for those who were tired of life and longed to be freed from its worries. . . .” Original reddish-brown pictorial cloth with bright gilt spine titles. Well illustrated with full page plates and maps. Original endpapers. A firm, tight copy with light foxing to preliminary pages, otherwise clean.
