214 pages, full faux vellum, the upper cover is titled in gilt and with an embroidered surround of gilt thread and flowers, gilt decoration on the spine, marbled endpapers with an obituary bookplate on the front paste-down endpaper, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, contained in a white cloth sollander case with a fleece lining, a very good copy.

Tennyson wrote ‘In Memoriam’ after he learned that his dear friend Arthur Henry Hallam had died suddenly of a fever at the age of 22.

Five hundred copies of this large paper edition were printed in December 1885.
