RESTORED
This is the definitive biography by S H Pellissier of his great-grandfather, Jean Pierre Pellissier (1808-1867), the first French Protestant missionary to establish a mission station in South Africa - in Bethulie, in the then Orange Free State Republic, in 1833; as well as the history of Bethulie itself and of Pellissier's widow and other members of their family.
Dustjacket, red cloth boards, gilt to upper panel and spine, plain endpapers, inserted colour frontispiece portrait, 697 pp of Afrikaans text with some letters in English, 87 appendixes and indexes of names, appendixes and illustrations - all on heavy wove paper - plus 34 inserted monochrome plates on gloss art paper.
CONDITION. The dustjacket has been repaired, but there is some material missing from the spine. The cover panels are rubbed and the spine is faded. The endpapers are sunned in register with the dustjacket. There is light foxing to the frontispiece and title-page. The contents, including the plates, are complete, unmarked and undiscoloured - making this, overall, a very good copy.
