A large and sumptuously illustrated book celebrating the city\'s centenary, 332pp. commencing with early photographs of the High Veld pioneers before the discovery of gold, and diagrams showing the original farm boundaries such as Braamfontein 142, Langlaagte 258, Diepkloof 61, Turffontein 219, Doornfontein 323, etc... and chapters on the architecture, people, health, mining, culture, sport, and commercial development. Book condition: very good, sticky tape marks on front and rear end-papers, and slight shelf-wear, otherwise no inscriptions, a very nice copy. Jacket condition: good, with small area of loss to head of spine, and tear to foot of spine (taped), corners and extremities showing moderate wear, otherwise good.
