The author was Resident Magistrate in Kaffraria, and Commandant of Native Levies during the Kafir War in 1878.

Frontispiece + xii + 320pp.

The frontispiece titled "Group of officers in command of Streatfeild's Fingoes and Kafir trophies" which is sometimes removed, is still present in this copy.

'Experiences of a Colonial magistrate in the Gaika and Galeka campaign in 1878, under Colonel (afterwards Sir Evelyn) Wood. The author was in command of a Fingo levy and gives an account of the campaign with Sandilli.' - Mendelssohn Vol.II, page 448.

Copy is solid and tightly bound. Recased with new end papers. Contents have some occasional finger markings at the top page corners.
