These two in many ways complementary books deal with two highly endangered and environmentally sensitive regions of SWA/Namibia: the coastal strip the Kaokoveld, the adjacent narrow south-north strip, bounded to the east by Damaraland, the Etosha National Park and Damaraland; and the Skeleton Coast.

SKELETON COAST. The first edition was published in 1988, when Louw Schoeman was still alive. In his Foreword, Niko Bessenger, minister of Environment and Tourism, complements Amy and Louw for putting the Skeleton Coast on the world map. Amy, the author, was a photojournalist who first visited the area in 1977, where she met her husband.

Colour photographic dustjacket. Blue boards, printed in white to the spine and upper board. Colour photographic endpapers. xii (including colour map) + 148 pp of colour-illustrated text, bibliography and index.

KAOKOVELD. This is a more scientific text, by three complementary authors, and with a foreword by the international elephant authority David Shepherd. Anthony Hall-Martin contributed most of the photographs; Clive Walker was the director of the Engandered Wildlife Trust; and Koos Bothma was one of three Pretoria university professors who assisted Professor Fritz Eloff (remembered in the book's dedication) in his ecological surveys of Kaokoland. (First reprint of first edition.)

Colour photographic dustjacket. Green boards, printed in white to the spine. Plain grey endpapers. [xiv] pp including a map + 78 pp of b/w illustrated text and checklists on grey matt paper + pp 79-142 pp of colour photographs on matt art paper + pp 143-146 pp of bibliography.

Both books are in very good condition throughout, unmarked and undiscoloured.
