This lot is an unbroken run of 36 quarterly issues (1962-1971) of this English and Afrikaans adult education journal sponsored by the Department of Education. Lantern had a long life (from late-1940s to late 1980s) and its articles were contributed by experts in their fields, widely quoted and frequently reproduced.
[A complete run of Vols 1 (I) to 7 (VII) (28 issues) was sold on Auction #71.]
All 36 issues of these nine volumes are complete, unmarked (except for a few labels indicating a donor) and undiscoloured. Some have binding holes at the upper left corners, indicating that they were once tied with string into volumes. Except for the covers, early issues were printed mainly in monochrome gravure, with later ones being mainly in colour. The issues averaged about a hundred pages.
The images show the covers of the first numbers of each volume as a single image, and then 3 x 3 vols, and lastly a few outstanding covers singly.
