Gerard was posted to India in 1866 and he recounts numerous adventures including pig sticking at Nagpur, tiger hunting near the Wurdah River with additional note of bagging bear and cheetal. Later assignments brought him to various regions of the Central Provinces where he collected more tigers and a lion. On other sporting excursions, he hunted panther and tiger, with additional bouts of pig sticking. He also includes his military action in the Afghan War 1878-79.

Original brick red cloth with gilt titles and tigers vignette on the front cover and gilt spine titles. Well illustrated with illustrated plates and photo plates. Cloth lightly rubbed. Original endpapers quite age-tanned, split at front inner hinge.
