8vo. xiii,387pp. 16 plates, index. A very good if slightly worn and marked copy in the publisher's dark blue cloth. Gilt titles. Scattered foxing mainly to the title page and prelims.

Born in 1851 and educated at Rugby school, Selous left for Africa in 1870 to be a big game hunter, he spent much of his time hunting in sub-Saharan Africa and served in the Matabele wars. During the great war, he was given a commission in the 25th Btn of the Fusiliers, The Frontiersman at the age 63 was killed during the campaign. Later a unit of the Rhodesian Special forces took his name as the Selous Scouts.
