This is the "author's copyright edition" [which] "contains not only every poem printed in any other edition issued in England, but 86 copyright poems".
This is a very good copy of an extremely attractive edition, in every way original.
The upper panel of the green silk-boards is printed with an autumn floral design in colour, a separate black design and the poet's signature in gilt. The spine has gilt and black lettering and design, and on the back is the publisher's logo in black. The endpapers are printed in an olive-green floral pattern, and the page edges are printed with a brighter-green tree design. The half-title, title-page and xii + 564 double-column text pages are printed in red and black. There is a tissue-protected frontispiece, and the 83 engraved illustrations throughout the book are by Sir John Gilbert, RA, and others.
This beautiful copy's only small defects are: (1) lightly rubbed cover extremities; (2) foxed free endpaper versos; and (3) a neat three-line dedication in black ink on the half-title: this is in French and is dated "26 Juillet 1883" - i e in the same year the book was published.
There are no other ownership or other markings and the text pages are bright white.
