Reminiscences of a European trip, untitled, and though unidentified clearly the writing of Ellen Shaw (Garrison) Kean. 112 p. (56 leaves) 12" paper with hand-crafted covers and clearly written entries on one side of each sheet, often with photographs, cards or ephemera attached to the facing page, usually annotated, chronicling a summer of travel through Italy and into Germany, France, etc. Ellen Shaw Garrison and Hamilton Fish Kean were married in March, 1950 (divorced 1976)-- this journal appears to be an account of their honeymoon, more specifically, the second part of the trip as it picks up on their way to Sicily. The entries are well written, mainly undated, told in past tense as if it were a recollection. The couple both descended from prominent American families with particularly strong roots in New York state politics; they had four children together. Link to NYT wedding page.
Laid in is a 2 p. typed 1948 letter signed by Hamilton Fish Keen to his father, Robert Winthrop Kean.
