Volume one Mapungubwe on the ancient Bantu civilization on the Limpopo with reports on the excavations from February 1933 to June 1935 which was edited on behalf of the Archaeological Committee of the University of Pretoria by Leo Fouche. This edition has 183 pages with colour frontispiece 2 maps, 3 colour plates, 40 black and white plates, table and 6 folding diagrams.
Volume 2 has reports on the excavations at Mapungubwe and Bambandyanalo in the Northern Transvaal in 1935 to 1940 by Captain Guy A. Gardner. Due to World War 2 and later evidence this volume was only completed under the direction of the University of Pretoria 20 years later in 1963. This edition consists of 234 pages, frontispiece portrait, illustrations and line drawings and 5 folding diagrams.
