Joseph Mosenthal arrived at the Cape in 1833. He and his brothers rapidly built a trading empire, leading to agricultural advances and the expansion of the family into many areas of commercial activity. They commissioned Thomas Bowler to paint pictures of their establishments around the Cape Colony and reproductions of these are included.
